It Begins Again... Fall 2010

The first day of classes, if the overflowing parking lots, crowded halls and very confused students wandering around didn't give it away then the packed classrooms did. The best part of teaching is seeing the excitement students have the first day of college. They have a new and electrifying view of the world and life that can be contagious. My first class was a one hundred level course that was packed with new students. Having them share what they want out of life and where they came from is always a highlight of my semester. I want the best for them just as if they were my own. Although, I won't be teaching them their shapes or how to tie their shoes, I will be teaching with the same patients and enthusiasm, its part of being a great teacher. Already I can feel the energy inside me building as I prepare to make each and every class just as new and exciting as the first. This semester has endless possibilities for student success. I'm ready for the ride. Are you?

Why Do I Even Talk?

As an Instructor "Why do I even talk?" has become a catch phrase of mine. Students studying in the field of Communication and Media Arts tend to be expansive learners. What I mean by that is they have information at the speed of Google and it can become a challenge to filter useful information from the information you can forget. Creative people need to be stimulated visually and audibly during the learning process. I find my job can be exhausting just trying to find new ways to present material that will engage and excite a generation that watches television, while listening to their iPod, texting friends and surfing Facebook. I consider myself a great teacher and I hope that I can share through this blog the information you'll want to remember if you want to be successful in the Television and Film Industry.
